In office environments, fire risk is often underestimated. While hazards may be less visible than in industrial settings, the impact of a fire can be just as severe. From staff evacuation and lost working time to damage to essential systems.
SmartMist provides fire suppression for offices that focuses on fast response and minimal impact. Our systems are designed to control fire quickly while helping businesses maintain continuity and protect the people inside the building.
Office fire suppression isn’t just about stopping fire, it’s about doing so without disrupting the working environment.
We design systems that are practical, unobtrusive and suited to modern workplaces, ensuring protection without compromising how your space functions.
Without the right protection in place, even a small incident can escalate quickly in an office setting.
A well-designed system helps reduce:
- Unplanned business downtime
- Risk to employees and visitors
- Damage to IT systems and infrastructure
- Disruption to operations and productivity
- Long-term financial and reputational impact
Every office operates differently. Some rely heavily on technology, while others focus on high occupancy or customer-facing activity.
We take these factors into account when designing fire suppression for offices, ensuring the system works in the background without interfering with how your business runs.
Our team plans each installation carefully, working around your schedule to reduce disruption. Whether that means out-of-hours work or phased installation, the goal is always to keep your team working as normally as possible.
Our systems are designed to align with recognised guidance from the British Standards Institution, helping you meet safety expectations while creating a more secure environment for staff and visitors.
We support businesses nationwide, delivering fire suppression solutions for offices ranging from small teams to large commercial buildings.

Client: Private Investment Company
Location: Norwich, UK
Project Duration: 18 months (First Fix to Commissioning)
Team on Site: Dedicated Project Manager on-site for 4 months
SmartMist was appointed to design and install a fire suppression system for a 7-storey apartment block in Norwich, converted from a former BT office building that was demolished and rebuilt. Engaged from the initial design phase, we collaborated closely with the project team, including architects and contractors, to develop a tailored mist suppression system that aligned with the building’s unique layout and fire safety strategy.
The project required installing two to three mist nozzles in each flat, depending on the number of bedrooms, alongside full coverage for communal areas such as corridors and stairwells. Our mist suppression system was carefully integrated into the building’s architecture to provide effective fire protection while maintaining aesthetic and functional harmony.
The installation process spanned 18 months, from first fix to final commissioning. We strategically placed the pump system in the ground-floor plant room to optimise efficiency and accessibility. Our team ensured seamless coordination with other trades on-site, delivering a system that met both the client’s expectations and UK fire safety regulations, including BS 8458 and BS 9251.
The conversion presented logistical challenges, particularly in aligning our installation schedule with the broader construction timeline. Integrating the mist system without disrupting other works required meticulous planning.
Our dedicated Project Manager, on-site for four months, played a pivotal role in maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders, resolving issues promptly, and keeping the project on track. This hands-on approach ensured that challenges, such as coordinating access to the plant room and integrating pipework, were addressed efficiently.
The client, a private investment company, expressed high satisfaction with SmartMist’s end-to-end service. They valued our involvement from the initial consultation through to commissioning, noting the system’s seamless integration and reliability.
The client particularly appreciated our proactive communication and commitment to delivering a fully operational system that met their fire safety requirements. To ensure long-term performance, we established a biannual servicing schedule, providing ongoing maintenance to keep the system compliant and effective.
Conclusion
This 7-storey apartment block in Norwich now benefits from a state-of-the-art mist suppression system, delivering robust fire protection for residents across individual flats and communal areas.
SmartMist’s tailored solution, combined with our comprehensive service approach, has provided the client with peace of mind and a safer living environment. Our biannual servicing continues to uphold the highest standards of safety and performance for the building.
